2K - Pop/Rock Band
The 2K Pop/Rock Band is a contemporary ensemble within the Boardman Band program designed to give students a hands-on performance experience in modern popular music.
Unlike traditional concert or marching settings, the group focuses on small-band collaboration, amplified instrumentation, and student-driven musicianship, allowing performers to take on roles such as lead vocals, rhythm section, and solo performance. With a repertoire centered around recognizable hits from the 2000s through today, 2K provides an accessible and engaging platform that connects current music trends with the school’s music program.
The ensemble emphasizes creativity, stage presence, and real-world performance experience, often appearing at school events, community venues, and featured concerts alongside other local ensembles.
Project Mayhem
Including members of the Boardman Band supporting our Boardman Orchestra students, Project Mayhem was founded in 2006 and began as a creative vision to bridge classical training with modern rock. The ensemble held its inaugural performance in March 2007, drawing a massive crowd of over 1,000 fans. Since then, it has evolved into a full-scale professional production featuring student vocalists, a professional laser light show, and even smoke cannons.
This year’s setlist features a massive variety of hits spanning decades, including:
Rock Anthems: "Jukebox Hero" (Foreigner), "Crazy Train" (Ozzy Osbourne), and "One" (Metallica) (p. 1).
Modern Favorites:
"Stargazing" (Myles Smith) and "You Belong With Me" (Taylor Swift) (p. 1).
Classic Hits: "Bobby McGee" (Janis Joplin), "Dancing Queen" (ABBA), and "I Will Survive" (Gloria Gaynor) (p. 1).
